Spring 2017 Round-Robin Week 3UpdatedFriday June 30, 2017 byAdministrator ETFL.
GAME 1: MOODY CONSTRUCTION vs. BRENT'S PLUMBING
Brent's Plumbing began this game with their sites set on a 'A' Championship matchup, but did not lose focus on the task at hand as they quickly took control of this game with 2 unanswered touchdowns in the 1st Quarter. Will hodge and Evan Woodcock were the respective receivers for each score, both being left wide open while Moody's Defence focused on taking away the biggest threat in Brandon Pottle. Moody found some life when Mart Einer intercepted a pass, pitching to Andrew Brimpong who flashed his footwork to break open and return for six points. Although they tried their best and kept the game interesting, Moody were unable to fully contain BP who burned them on a post-route and scoring to effectively put the game out of reach late in the 3rd. Brent's Plumbing, already locked into a spot in the 'A' Championship, will now wait for their Final opponent to be decided in the 1:30PM matchup between Direct Elevator and Pickering Mitsubishi. [FINAL SCORE: MC-10, BP-20]. Game MVP - Mart Einer.
GAME 2: HAMPTON REGAL vs. SCUGOG SPORTSWARE
In the absence of QB Mike Bezzant, Shane Ruest made his debut throwing for Scugog in this fine game between two teams fighting to not play the 9AM slot in the Finals next week. The first quarter was a straight up tug-of-war as both teams were evenly matched and fighting hard to move the ball. Shaner unleashed the catapult in the 2nd quarter hitting Aaron Karamath with an absolute bomb from his own 5 to the 50 yard line. Despite the big plays, the score remained deadlocked at 0's, with neither team able to finish drives due to some excellent defense on both sides. Paul Leckey would end the drought, however, scoring for Hampton as well as nailing a critical 1-XP. Scugog battled back with a score by Adam King but could not convert the XP, leaving Hampton in the lead. With only 4 plays remaining Hamptons defence stepped up large and prevented Scugog from scoring again, thus holding on for the 7-6 victory and a chance to play in the 'C' Final. [FINAL SCORE: HR-7, SGS-6]. GAME MVP - Paul Leckey.
GAME 3: TRANSMISSION DEPOT vs. DAWKSPORTS
With QB Buzz Bezzant accompanying his younger brother on his big day, Joe Dublin stepped up for DawkSports in this 12:00 tilt vs 5th seed Transmission Depot. Joe flashed some great mobility and QB skills early with a running pass thrown on a rope to Craig 'Pooh' Wrice for a DS 1st down, but felt he would be of more use as a receiver in the 2nd half. Transmission QB Andrew Heaney stayed hot in this one despite some tough defence by DawkSports, scoring two unanswered touchdowns to give his team a decent lead into halftime. Third Quarter and a QB switch later, DawkSports was finally on the board with a TD pass from Dimitri Kostas to none other than Joe Dublin. Transmission were not impressed by this, however, and would tack on one more score to complete the game, finishing 2-1 in the playoffs and earning themselves a shot at the 'B' Title. [FINAL SCORE: TMD-20, DS-7]. GAME MVP - Joe Dublin.
GAME 4: DIRECT ELEVATOR vs. PICKERING MITSUBISHI
These two teams haven't played since Week 1 of the Regular Season when Direct won 36-20, but when it's playoff time in the ETFL the only thing that matters is winning your next game. In this much anticipated matchup to decide the other half of the 'A' Final, things were looking good for Direct with a goal line stand and a 40 yard completion from QB Stu McNeill to Josh Devine; except for the fact that that play got wiped out by offside, resulting in a subsequent 3-and-out. Pickering once again were stopped on the goal line on their following drive but got their act together for the remainder of the game, which they proceeded to dominate both offensively and defensively. Like a well tuned engine, Pickering revved up and took control with their speed and skill, leading 14-0 at half. Direct had their chances and were able to move the ball fairly well, but time and time again were stopped before reaching the endzone. Pickerings youth and speed game them the edge they need to continue to score and get the stops they needed to overwhelm Direct and advance to the 'A' Final. This excellent performance sets the stage for an incredible matchup next Week as Pickering and Brent's will battle for the coveted ETFL Spring 'A' Championship. Congrats to both teams and Good Luck in the Final! [FINAL SCORE: DE-2, PM-31]. GAME MVP - Tyler Carron.
