Spring 2017 Round-Robin Week 1

UpdatedFriday June 30, 2017 byAdministrator ETFL.

In the first game to kick off the Spring 2017 Playoffs Transmission began with a 3 & out, allowing Brent's to open the scoring on their first drive, although missing the convert attempt.  Transmission on the rebound with a nice pitch play from Aaron Racciopa to Navan Bennet to set them up in the Redzone.  Raci himself caught the TD to cap off the drive while QB Andrew Heaney added the 1-XP to put them ahead 7-6.  Both teams traded touchdowns in the following frame, Kyle Shaw scoring for Brent's and Raci again on a deep Post route.  The back and fourth action continued late into the 4th Quarter when Transmission had the opportunity to for an INT; which was dropped, giving Brent's a breathe of life resulting in a TD to clinch the first win of the round robin.  Great game by both teams to start the Playoffs! [FINAL SCORE: TMD-28, BP-37].

In the 2nd game of the day each team came in with high expectations to win, which was demonstrated throughout the 1st quarter as determination and skill collided on the field.  It wasn't until the 2nd half when the speed and skill of Mitsubishi began to take over with QB Rob Pacas expertly spreading the ball to his young and quick receivers.  Chris Fealy and Matt Rafuse were the standout performers for Mitsi while Pac contributed a FG to add to an impressive and dominant 2nd half performance.  The lone TD for Scugog was scored by Luke Brown and Brad Spencer once again gave his all with some great rushing, but in the end the onslaught from Pickering was too much for Scugog to handle.  Pickering looks to go 2-0 in the Playoffs in Round 2, but will have to face an underestimated Hampton Regal team to do it.  [FINAL SCORE: SGS-6, PM-31].

DawkSports finished the Spring 2017 Regular Season at the top of the heap  but as we all know come Playoff time it's a whole new season, and anything can happen!  This can be said as Moody Construction came out firing on all cylinders with QB Shad Ross finding a nice rythym while completing passes to Andrew Brimpong and Neil Moody to string together multiple drives.  An untimely lateral by DawkSports was intercepted by Neil Moody, setting up his team to score and put a healthy scare into the No. 1 seed!  With the game tied at 8's, all the pressure was on DawkSports to perform, and Loxley Prince answered the call with an INT late in the game, allowing QB Buzz Bezzant the opportunity to engineer the go ahead scoring drive.  Joe Dublin caught the winning touchdown and contributed to shutting out Moody for the rest of the game as DawkSports narrowly escaped with the win in this thriller of a game!  [FINAL SCORE: MC-8, DS-14].

In game 7 of the Spring 2017 Regular Season it was Hampton who triumphed over Direct with a game winning, last play FG by Paul Leckey.  This time Direct did not take them lightly and 'elevated' their game accordingly.  Despite only having 7 players Hampton played some solid defense, and QB Ryan Stephens was throwing like a seasoned veteran.  The only thing Hampton could not aniticpate is the 'Bo Factor' as Bohdan Gluch was the man of the hour for Direct, making a critical 3rd & 20 catch and following it up with an incredible 35 yard out and up grab on the sideline.  This gave Direct a major boost in the second half, leading to increased proficiency on both sides of the ball.  Direct held a 21-12 lead late in the 4th and was able to churn up the game clock with quick passes to center Kevin McNeill.  Dave Thomas showed off some shifty moves to gain the final 1st down and put the game on ice.  Hampton hopes to have a full squad for Round 2, and will need everything they got against a speedy Pickering Mitsubishi team.  [FINAL SCORE: HR-12, DE-21].
