Spring 2017 Week 2

UpdatedFriday June 30, 2017 byAdministrator ETFL.

GAME 1: DAWKSPORTS vs. HAMPTON REGAL

It was the 'quiet before the snow storm' as the participants of Game 1 took the field.  Although slightlly warmer than Week 1 (-22 Deg. w/ wind chill), team Hampton faced some similar challenges on the field with dropped passes and a few unlucky bounces going the other way.  On top of that, the DawkSports defense was fierce on the ball, turning up the intensity each time Hampton got something going.  Veteran QB Buzz Bezzant marched the field steadily and with confidence knowing his Defense was operating at a high level, and was able to put up 31 points.   Hampton had a good thing going as QB Ryan Stephens founds his rythym with center Chris Taylor, but struggled to turn yardage into points in the endzone.  Hampton will look to unleash their potential in Week 3, matching up against Scugog Sportsware. [FINAL SCORE: DS-31, HRM-6].  GAME MVP - Marlon Wong.

GAME LEADERS: [DAWKSPORTS] Marlon Wong (3 TD), Loxley Prince (3 INT, 2 2-XP), Joe Dublin (1 TD, 1 INT), Josh.0 Devine (1 INT), Jason Carter (1 2-XP), Zach Fedak (1 1-XP, 1 Sack). [HAMPTON] Matt Chang (1 TD), Will Jeyevareen (1 INT).

GAME 2: DIRECT ELEVATOR vs. SCUGOG SPORTSWARE

This was a well matched game from start to finish as both teams competed hard on both sides of the ball.  Scugog held the early 7 point lead until Direct stormed back to put up two unanswered TD's.  QB Mikey Bezzant was sharp as a razor, threading in the ball to his receivers in tight coverage and working the field against a tough Direct D.  Late in the 3rd Scugog battled back to tie the game after a gritty drive resulting in a TD pass to Adam King.  Cue the storm in the 4th quarter as high winds began to blow snow sideways across the field, making each play more difficult than the last.  After a huge stop by the Direct Elevator defense with three plays remaining, QB Stu McNeill was able to get his team within FG distance.  On the very last play with snow blowing in every direction Josh Devine nailed the 45 yarder to give Direct the win and improve his MVP streak to 2!  Great finish to a great game.  [FINAL SCORE: DE-17, SGS-14] GAME MVP - Josh Devine.

GAME LEADERS: [DIRECT] Josh Devine (2 TD, 1 FG, 2 1-XP).  [SCUGOG] Adam King (2 TD, 1 INT), Connor Tamblyn (1 INT), Aaron Karamath (1 INT), Shane Ruest (2 1-XP).

GAME 3: BRENT'S PLUMBING vs. MOODY CONSTRUCTION

The 3rd matchup was played during the 'storm with a purpose'; that purpose being to make it difficult for all players to compete!  With a temperature drop of 10 Degrees Celsius and 40 km winds blowing from the east, noone including the QB's could get a consistant grip on the ball.  Despite this, Brent's Plumbing was able to keep a firm grip on the game with some solid defensively play.  QB Rick Pottle has a new favorite son as he connected with Kyle Shaw for 18 points over the course of the game (Brandon who?).  Moody was held off the scoresheet until late in the second half when Andrew Brimpong launched a beauty 40 yard pass to Mart Einer for a TD.  Unfortunately for Moody more snow accumulated in the endzone than points, and they were unable to comeback from the hefty 1st half deficit. [FINAL SCORE: BP-38, MC-6].  GAME MVP - Kyle Shaw.

GAME LEADERS: [BRENT'S] Kyle Shaw (3 TD, 3 INT), Brandon Pottle (1 TD, 1 INT, 2 1-XP), Miguel Morris (1 TD), Kyle Maclean (1 TD), Nimrod Jenikovzsky (1 INT), Dylan Hutchinson (1 INT), Will Hodge (1 Sack). [MOODY] Mart Einer ( 1 TD), Neil Moody (1 Sack).

GAME 4: PICKERING MITSUBISHI vs. TRANSMISSION DEPOT

Once again these ETFL ballers found themselves fighting the elements as well as the other team.  Veteran QB Rob Pacas wasn't phased however, spreading the ball around nicely and scoring to take the opening lead of the game.  After being down early, Transmission QB Andrew Heaney looked to provide a spark, taking the game in his own hands (and legs) to return a kickoff for a TD, getting his team on the board.  Allot of back and forth action ensued as a result of poor conditions, but Pickering managed to weather the storm better than their opponent, helping them to their first win of the season.  QB Rob Pacas used 4 different receivers to score in the victory, and looks forward to taking on QB Buzz in Week 3's Marquee Matchup at noon. Transmission and Moody will battle for their own first wins of the season next week at 10:30.  [FINAL SCORE: PM-24, TMD-13]. GAME MVP - QB Rob Pacas.

GAME LEADERS: [PICKERING] Matt Rafuse (1 TD), Josh Hodge (1 TD), Braeden Pacas (1 TD), Chris Fealy (1 TD), Chris Heath (1 INT).  [TRANSMISSION] Aaron Racciopa (1 TD, 1 1-XP), Andrew Heaney (1 TD).
