Spring 2017 Week 1

UpdatedFriday June 30, 2017 byAdministrator ETFL.

GAME 1: TRANSMISSION DEPOT vs. SCUGOG SPORTSWARE

The first game of the 2017 Spring season brought QB Mike Bezzant (Scugog) and new QB Andrew Heaney (Transmission) head to head on the Field of Dreams at South Courtice Arena.  Scugog struck first as Mikey B passed to  Aaron Karamath (AK) to score the first touchdown this Spring.  Scugog continued to dominate the game from the opening quarter to the last, with Shane Ruest getting a good start to his season with 2 TD's, 3 INT's and a 1-XP.  Despite his debut being spoiled by Shane, rookie QB Andrew Heaney showed some promise and gutted out 8 points in the losing effort.  Scugog will look to keep their momentum going against Direct Elevator in their Week 2 10:30 matchup.  [FINAL SCORE: TMD-8, SGS-21]. GAME MVP - Shane Ruest.

GAME LEADERS: [TRANSMISSION] Aaron Racciopa (1 TD, 1 2-XP).  [SCUGOG] Shane Ruest (2 TD, 3 INT, 1 2-XP), Aaron Karamath (1 TD, 1 INT, 1 2-XP), Adam King (1 INT), Adrian Davis (1 INT).

GAME 2: DIRECT ELEVATOR vs. PICKERING MITSUBISHI

In maybe the most entertaining game of the day QB Rob Pacas (Pickering) squared off against QB Stu McNeill (Direct).  Both teams traded scores for the first quarter and remained neck and neck until Pickering made a crucial defensive stop, which allowed them to score and take the lead heading into half.  Direct Elevator put their game face on in the 3rd Quarter, combining all their team experience and effort to shut down Pickerings fast offense, while marching the field with confidence to score and take the lead.  Josh Devine was incredible for Direct making a legendary catch that only too few people were there to witness (catch of the year has been decided in Week 1 lol!).  By the end of the fourth Direct Elevator had pulled away to a 16 point advantage which would be the final difference in this one, setting up an epic rematch should these two teams meet in Playoffs.  [FINAL SCORE: DE-36, PM-20].  GAME MVP - Josh Devine.

GAME LEADERS: [DIRECT] Josh Devine (2 TD, 1 INT, 3 1-XP), Bohdan Gluch (1 TD, 1 INT), Dave Thomas (1 TD, 1 2-XP), Mike Devine (1 TD), Ryan Johnston (1 2-XP).  [PICKERING] Matt Rafuse (2 TD), Travis Thomas (1 TD), Rob Pacas (1 INT), Joshua Hodge (1 2-XP).

GAME 3: HAMPTON REGAL vs. BRENT'S PLUMBING

The Brent's Plumbing/Hampton Regal 2016 Spring Final is a game that should be remembered in the ETFL history books, sparking a notable rivalry between these two teams.  This game, however, was notably less than that as Brent's steamrolled team Hampton in their season opener.  QB Rick Pottle (Brent's) looked like he just got out of the gym and was throwing rockets as he utilized the talents of Brandon Pottle and Kyle Shaw (yeah, they're on the same team).  The Brent's defence was a force as well, wreaking havoc on rookie QB Ryan Stephens (Hampton) to create stops and turnovers throught the game.  Hampton stuggled at times to take advantage of plays that should have gone their way, and thus were unable to get much going despite the depth of talent on their roster.  Look for them to bounce back in their Week 2 matchup against DawkSports.  [FINAL SCORE: HR-0, BP-35].  GAME MVP - Brandon Pottle.

GAME LEADERS: [HAMPTON] Matt Chang (1 INT).  [BRENT'S] Brandon Pottle (3 TD, 1 1-XP), Kyle Shaw (2 TD, 1 2-XP, 3 Sacks),  Heinz Stork (1 INT), Dylan Hutchinson (1 INT), Will Hodge (1 2-XP).

GAME 4: MOODY CONSTRUCTION vs. DAWKSPORTS

The Eastern Touch Football League officially welcomes the Moody family in this game bewteen QB Shad Ross (Moody) and QB Buzz Bezzant (DawkSports).  It was a slow start for the Moody team as QB Shad Ross was running behind due to car trouble, allowing Bohdan Gluch to step in off the sidelines to show off his QB skills. Handsome as he may be Boh was unable to get much going before Shad arrived to take over.  DawkSports operated like it was business as usual, working well as a team to take advantage of a shaky start from Moody.  Josh.0 Devine (not to be confused with Josh Devine..... on Direct) was the standout performer in this game, doing it all whether it be catching TD's, INT's or punting 90 bouncing yards for a rouge.  Once Moody got going they managed 6 points thanks to a TD from Fall 2016 Top Scorer Andrew Brimpong, but DawkSports had already done enough damage to secure the win.  Moody Construction will have to be well prepared next week in a tough matchup against Brent's Plumbing.  [FINAL SCORE: MC-6, DS-22].  GAME MVP - Josh.0 Devine.

GAME LEADERS: [MOODY] Andrew Brimpong (1 TD). [DAWKSPORTS] Josh.0 Devine (1 TD, 1 INT, 2 1-XP), Dimitri Kostas (1 TD, 1 1-XP), Marlon Wong (1 TD, 1 Sack), Jason Carter (1 1-XP, 1 Sack), Joe Dublin (1 INT), Sheldon Kyrematen (1 INT).
